1. Local Fun

Sip and stroll is the most popular local activity. On the second Thursday of every month, from 5 to 8 p.m., enjoy a glass of wine and a stroll through historic Downtown Elgin.

Every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., the town of Elgin has a weekly farmer's market. Elgin also holds the annual Hogeye festival in the fall, a free, family-friendly event where you may meet your neighbors while they commune together in Downtown Elgin. There are also several competitive activities which include a BBQ pork cook-off, a pig eyes cornhole competition, and cow patty bingo, a unique take on the conventional game.

2. Cost of Living in Elgin Texas

According to bestplaces.net, Elgin, Texas, has a cost of living index of 94.8, and housing is a major contributor to the lower average index. As of March 2022, the median home price in Elgin is around $335,000, whereas the median home price in Austin is $624,000, which is a significant difference when contemplating migrating to an area.

3. Room to grow

Elgin is continually growing, and Trinity Ranch is one of the newest subdivisions built just south of Elgin. The community will span 383 acres and include nearly 1,700 residences, an amenities center, parks, and pathways. Construction on these residences is set to begin in 2023, with sales slated to start in the spring. Harvest Ridge, PepperGrass, and Eagles Landing are three neighborhoods now under construction and for sale.

4. Nature

Elgin has several parks and hiking trails, including Morris Memorial Park, basketball courts, walking trails, a pond, picnic tables, and a playground for the kids if you're looking for some outdoor fun. Another lovely park is Veterans Memorial Park, which features weekly farmer's markets. You can also go to Elgin Memorial Park or Thomas Memorial Park. If hiking is more your thing, Mckinney Rust Nature Park, an 1140-acre park located 21.3 miles from downtown, is the place to go. Whether it's a multi-use trail, guided outdoor and aquatic sports, or rental facilities, Elgin has something for everyone.

1. Transportation

In this location, public transit is limited. A bus called Carts runs, but you must contact ahead of time, and it is pretty inconvenient. The bus does not run regularly, so it will have limited routes and availability.

2. Small Town 

For some people, small-town vibes may not be a disadvantage, but for others, they may be because your neighbors will know a lot about you, and word spreads quickly if you know what I mean. Fortunately, the majority of your neighbors are well-intentioned.

3. Weather

Summers may be quite hot, and many people will complain about it. Fall and spring are Texans' favorite seasons, with average temperatures of 60°F in the winter and 75°F to 85°F in the spring. However, no matter what season it is, you'll see Texans embracing nature by being outside, particularly in central Texas.

4. The Commute

The Austin skyline is replaced by nature; thus, city living requires driving. Elgin has no bike or electric scooter rentals, so you won't find it here if you're searching for a buzz. However, if you still want to be close to the action, it's just 25.5 miles from Elgin to downtown Austin.

Overall, Elgin is a place to keep an eye on, as more and more people are considering relocating because of the people, the slower pace of life, the sense of community, and the affordability.
